Poem "Mother Alvan"

Mother Alvan
Thou million mothering college
Thou whose offsprings have stood the time of age
And make a country legend note-----
Mother whose love is like
the marvel of an island
in life's ocean vast and
wide,

A peaceful, quite
shelter
From the restless,
rising tide-----
Mother whose love is like
a fortress
And for knowledge sake we seek protection
there
When the waves of
ignorance
Seems to drown us in
despair-----
Mother whose love is a
Sanctuary
Where our soul can
fine sweet rest
From academics struggle and
the tension
Of life's fast and futile
quest-----
Mother whose love is like
a tower
Rising far above the
crowd,
thou whose smile is like the
Sunshine
Breaking through a
threatening cloud-----
Mother who is like
a beacon
Burning bright with
Faith and prayer,
And through the
Changing scenes of life
We can find a Haven
There-----
Mother whose unseen love is
Fashioned
After God" enduring
Love,
It is endless and
unfailing
Like the love of Him
above-----
Oh! Mother Alvan in thou lies
God's Great wisdom
That is rare in every kingdom
So God put His little
Children
In a loving mother like thee.
